Reflections on My Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic
YeAhn Choi (Toronto Eunpyung Church)
Today I will be talking about the things I learned from my first mission trip and my first ever trip to the Dominican. Some of the things I've learned came from not only my experiences but also the people on the trip with me.
I learned and experienced a lot during my first mission trip. Like the process of evangelism, and also I saw an evil spirit hurting a person, and I realized that there are so many people in this world who need God’s love and care.
I experienced how even if you are a good person, if you end up meeting the wrong people or end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, you could end up in a horrible situation just like the kids in the Juvenile detention center. Just because you've done bad things doesn’t mean you are a bad person, especially when it is because of horrible circumstances.
Another thing I experienced is that even though the people in the Dominican were suffering they still let us pray for them and listened to us preach every time we asked. It was amazing to see how open they were to Jesus Christ even though they've been through a lot.
Seeing the children at the school made me see how there is a lot I can learn from them. The things I could learn from them are: showing and loving openly, being happy and grateful over the small things and being happy and joyful even when things are going wrong.
